Is it Possible to Grow Taller After Puberty? Here is the Simple Truth You Need to Know

Is it Possible to Grow Taller After Puberty? Here is the Simple Truth You Need to Know

Growing taller isn’t rocket science as many would have you believe. You’re probably wondering, is it possible to grow taller after puberty? While there is a misconception that growing after puberty is a long shot. But this couldn’t have been further from the truth.

First off, the body is designed to grow well into the early twenties. Puberty occurs during early teenage years when boys start noticing their Adam’s Apple bulging and their pubic hair sprouting slowly. Their voice deepens and they start having muscles all over.

While some of these functions may halt when he reaches, say, the age of 16, height grow is still very much possible until he reaches 25 years of age. This can even occur without doing anything if his genes are programmed to do so. Only when the growth process has fully operated will it slowly stop.

It is very important to understand the underlying process responsible for human growth. These natural processes are the main catalysts for height growth for both men and women. Have you ever heard of the controversy behind baseball players? Well, rumor has it that many players use steroids in order to boost their human growth hormone or HGH. Steroids have dramatic effects on these particular hormones because it doubles its potential. But you do that at a certain risk. There are side effects associated to using steroids to stimulate HGH.

A good way to stimulate HGH in a natural way is to exercise. When one is working out, his body releases chemicals that would contact the brain so that the brain in turn contacts these hormones. So by working out on a regular basis, you’re doing your body a favor because you allow the growth hormones to operate at top speed.

Another great way to increase your height is to influence your spine. Your spine largely determines not only your posture but also your physical height itself. The longer your spine, the taller you will be. You can stretch this by performing stretching exercises which include hanging on a horizontal bar or something and letting your whole weight suspend in there for several minutes. This makes your spine elongate and become a little bit more elastic so that physical growth would become a possibility.

You should also counter the factors that hinder your growth process. For example, if your body isn’t getting enough nutrients and vitamins needed to sustain growth, then exercises wouldn’t help no matter how much you sweat around. Eating fruits and vegetables are a good way to acquire vitamins D and A, while drinking milk and eating fish and liver would help increase protein content in your body. So this, in itself, answers your is it possible to grow taller after puberty question.…

I Have Pimples! (Body Fact Number 2)

I Have Pimples! (Body Fact Number 2)

What do whiteheads, blackheads, pimples, and cysts all have in common? They’re all types of acne. Your skin’s pores sometimes get clogged up with oil, dead skin cells, and germs (bacteria). When a pore clogs up, closes, and bulges out from your skin, it’s called a whitehead. When a pore clogs up but stays open, the top surface usually gets dark and you have a blackhead. At other times, the walls of the pore break, allowing oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria to get under your skin. The causes a small red infected bump called a pimple. When a pore clogs up and the infection goes deeper and fills with puss, it’s called a cyst.

Almost everyone has acne of some kind by the time they become an adult. The good news is that most acne goes away about the time you turn 20 years old. Still, it’s not easy to look at yourself in the mirror and see a big fat pimple on your nose!

You may have heard that eating fried food and chocolate or being stressed out causes acne. Not true. Some people believe that getting a tan or washing and scrubbing your face a zillion times a day will make acne disappear. Not true again! Too much sun and too much washing only dry out your skin and make the acne worse. Instead, try these tips to keep acne breakouts to a minimum.

1. Wash your face twice a day with soap and warm water.

2. Don’t scrub your face. Wash gently, using your fingertips instead of a washcloth.

3. If you wear sunscreen on your face, make sure it’s labeled “nonacnegenic” or “noncomedogenic.”

4. Wash your face after you’ve been exercising and sweating a lot.

5. Don’t touch, squeeze, or pop pimples. The oil and dirt from your hands will just make things worse.

6. Try some of the acne lotions and creams from your drugstore to see if they help. The ones that contain benzyl peroxide (kills bacteria) are usually the best.

7. If your acne is more serious, a family doctor or dermatologist (skin doctor) can prescribe stronger creams and lotions.…

What Is Acne and What Causes Acne?

What Is Acne and What Causes Acne?

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles of the skin become clogged with oil, resulting in pimples. Acne is usually found on the face, back and chest. Acne usually begins around puberty, and worsens during the teenage years. The hair follicles are connected to sebaceous glands, which secrete an oily substance that is known as sebum. Sebum is used to lubricate the hair and the skin. When the body produces excess amounts of sebum, usually during puberty and adolescence, the hair follicles become clogged, which causes inflammation of the skin and can cause acne. The face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, and arms have the sebaceous glands, which is why acne is the most common in these areas. Lets take a look at what plays a significant role in causing acne:

1) Diet: For years, scientists have claimed that acne and diet are not related to each other. However, recently there is evidence that says that diet can play a role in acne. New studies show that foods with a high glycemic index cause acne. These foods include; cakes, cookies, sodas, breads, etc. Eating these foods causes the body to release a hormone known as insulin to regulate that blood sugar. Once the blood sugar then drops, the body releases another hormone to raise the blood sugar back to the normal level. Some scientists say that all the extra hormone production can be the cause of acne. Dairy products are also said to produce acne, due to the hormones in the milk. To sum this up, diet does play a role in acne. To control acne, eat a low amount of sugars and greasy foods, and eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible.

2) Puberty: During puberty, the sebaceous glands produce more sebum. Sebum is an oil that moisturizers the hair and skin. The excess sebum combines with dead skin cells and clogs up the pores, resulting in acne breakouts. This is also true with women who are on their period or are pregnant. The sebaceous glands will continue to produce excessive sebum until around the age of 20. To control acne, teenagers should promote good hygiene and wash their face at least twice a day.

3) Stress: Many overlook how big of a factor stress plays in the cause of acne. When stressed, stress hormones raise testosterone levels, causing production of oil and causing breakouts. I remember when I came home from college after finals week. The first thing my Mom said to me was “Oh my God, your face looks horrible!” To control acne, try to remain calm, be sure to relax, and get enough sleep daily.

4) Hygiene: Showering and washing your face are the best ways to control acne. Dead skin cells, dirt, and bacteria all accumulate on your skin and cause acne. Also, keep your hands away from your face! To control acne, wash your face at least twice a day and promote good hygiene.

By following these methods, you can control your acne in no-time!…

How to Talk to Your Child About STDs

How to Talk to Your Child About STDs

Most adolescents are woefully ignorant when it comes not only to contracting sexually transmitted diseases, but also about their own bodies, and life in general. One of the key problems is that as humans, we do not run on instinct only. We rely on learning, and this takes years.A

The body out paces the brain during early teens. Desires are present in the same way and intensity (sometimes more so) than they are in adults. For the parent, this can be a real problem. Some of us honestly don’t want our children to grow up! We are frightened by this stage in their lives and would rather they remained innocent little children.

If you find yourself in this dilemma, one of the key things to understand is how the brain and body work during this phase of your child’s development. Once you gain an insight in to this, you can handle the inevitable conversation about STD’s (STI’s) with confidence.

These are some tips that have helped me over the years:

Just give them the facts. Facts can be quite sobering.

Don’t preach or become emotional. Emotions can get in the way of the facts and create resistance.

Explain in a step by step way what is going on with their bodies.

Don’t talk in code. Talk biology to them like in school. Use the correct names for the bodyparts.

Don’t be scared to scare them! It works.

At the end of your little talk, do an image search on the internet for sexually transmitted diseases. Teens respond more to gross images than the wisest medical advice!

That 6 step process worked for me many times. Also, you might just want to explain in your own words some of the following information below. It all helps.

When the physical changes of puberty have taken place, the male is capable of fertilising a female egg, and the female is able to conceive and produce a baby. However, although the body may be physically capable of these functions, it is still necessary for the emotions to develop. It is during the adolescent period – from puberty to 19 or 20 – that physical and emotional developments link and move towards a mature and adult understanding.A

Adolescents may form casual relationships and experiment with sex, but they will also be learning moral values and how to become responsible adults. Many adolescents will be looking for a partner with whom to form a permanent relationship, leading to a home and family. The results of unrestricted sexual encounters can be disastrous, possibly ending in unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases or emotional damage.

Sexually transmitted disease

Since the 1960s there has been a steep increase in the number of reported cases of STD (venereal disease), from approximately 175 000 in 1960 to a million in 2008 in the UK alone. These are frightening figures, as the results of STD can be infertility, serious illness or even death, and psychological trauma and acute distress to those infected, their partners and family.

These diseases can be easily passed on from person to person during casual sexual relationships. STDs can be successfully treated when diagnosed early and given professional medical treatment. Special treatment clinics (genito-urinary clinics) have been set up in most hospital departments, and treatment is free. Any person with a STD must not have sexual contact with another person until he or she has been cleared of the infection.…

Homeopathy – The 21st Century Treatment

Homeopathy – The 21st Century Treatment

Homeopathy is the second most used form of medical treatment in the world and is considered a safe form of treatment. Hundreds of millions of people use homeopathic treatments and remedies including famous people in both the entertainment and sports industries.

Even royalty have successfully used homeopathic remedies for health issues or just for the sake of keeping healthy and safe naturally.

A Brief History Of Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a kind of alternative medicine that treats a disease with a preparation that is heavily diluted. This science and philosophy was created by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician. Despite being thought of as a controversial form of treatment and science, it has been used successfully by both practitioners and patients for many, many years. It is widely accepted all over the world.

Prince Charles himself is an advocate of homeopathic medicine. Soccer superstar David Beckham as well as tennis legend Martina Navratilova chose to be treated by homeopathy, as did Charles Darwin. Sir Paul McCartney, Florence Nightingale, Claude Monet; all use or have used homeopathic treatment. Even Axl Rose of Guns N Roses, so that’s saying something!

Restoring Balance To The Body

Homeopathy works in such a way as to restore the proper balance to the body, the way things “ought to be”. The natural medicines used in homeopathic remedies helps to strengthen the body’s own ability to fight disease and restore the body to its balance.

These remedies are derived from plants, minerals and animals the world over. The success rates of cures are very high and are also safer and more economical in the long run. And let’s face it, everyone wants a high level of health and this is what homeopathic medicine can give you.

Nobody wants to be sick or in pain. Nobody. Though drugs certainly can give quick relief, drugs do have side effects, especially in the long term. Coming off medications can also bring about some nasty side effects.

These are things more and more people are taking into consideration. Alternative treatments like homeopathy have proved both safe and effective with little or no side effects.

Homeopathic Treatment For Children

Even toddlers or infants can be safely treated with homeopathic remedies. Obviously, you want to make sure that you see someone who is qualified. Treatment can help to restore proper balance and function and also strengthen the immune system.

Even doctors sometimes refer their patients to homeopaths! As the 21st century progresses, alternative methods of treatment will not only become more popular, in the long run, it’s safer and that’s something we all want not just for ourselves, but or children as well.…

Celebrate International Girls Day

Celebrate International Girls Day

This week we’re celebrating International Girls Day. Our small celebration included my girls, a friend, homemade pizza and watching Home Alone 4 (It seemed logical since we’d just seen Home Alone 1, 2 and 3.)

What is International Girls Day?

“In 2010, Kappa Delta Sorority created International Girls Day on behalf of the Confidence Coalition. With the message, “She Can Do Anything!” the celebration recognizes the spirit of girls and encourages girls to make their dreams a reality. The celebration takes place each year on November 14.”

– The Confidence Coalition

I completely support the idea that girls can do anything. Making it easier for girls to do anything is our deep mission. One way that girls can begin to feel more confident in their own skin is to better understand how their bodies work, and how to take great care of their bodies.

Starting in your own kitchen, here are a few ways that you can teach your girl a bit more about her amazing body, and how to keep it strong, calm, and energized so that she has the strength, endurance, and courage to do anything!

Some foods are really tough on a girl’s growing body. Instead of providing nourishment for her cells, focus for her mind, and energy for her muscles, they can really drag her down. Interestingly these foods are different for each girl because each girl is different. But, here are a few common ones that are more likely to drag your girl down.

Sugar (or any artificial sweeteners)

Wheat (Gluten) (Gluten is often a problem even if she doesn’t have a diagnosed allergy to gluten or celiac disease.)

Dairy

It’s no fun, and not helpful, to just cut foods out of your girl’s nutrition program. When foods are abruptly taken away, we usually react by craving more of them or feeling deprived. Instead, shift to different foods and build up her nutrient stores, which will lessen her cravings.

To shift away from sugar, adjust your girl’s “sweet-o-meter.” Try eating only fruit, or fruit sweetened desserts instead of sugary treats for a week or two, and see how sweet natural fruit can taste. Look for hidden sugars in salad dressings, condiments, and other packaged foods.

Try these homemade salad dressings, and do a family taste test to decide your favorites.

Lemon Dijon Dressing

Balsamic Vinaigrette

Dijon Vinaigrette

Instead of wheat flour, try using almond flour.

You can even make pizza crust out of it for your International Girls Day Celebration! If your daughter, or her friends, are allergic to nuts, try gluten free or grain free pizza crust.

Instead of cow’s milk, use coconut milk. Often girls with nut allergies can tolerate coconut (check with her doctor to be sure.)

My girls love my coconut milk and pumpkin winter smoothie.

For a fancy treat… top it with coconut whipped cream.

When your girl learns which foods make her body feel good, strong, calm, and focused, it will be so much easier for her to go out and do anything! Isn’t that what we all want for our girls?

Please share this post with your friends, and encourage them to sign up for my Fierce Toolkit so that they can learn more about getting great energy for themselves and their girls. Let me know in the comments below if your daughter struggles with any food sensitivities, allergies, asthma, skin issues, or digestive problems. I would love to share more ideas for food shifts with you to healthy, easy, and delicious alternatives. And, please share what food shifts have worked for you so that other moms can give your ideas a try!
