Four Popular Diets and How Each One Can Positively Affect Your Health

Surrounding research done in tandem with gastric bypass in Hialeah, you usually see blurbs about diets and how they can negatively impact your health. But this article covers the opposite.

In this article, you will read about four popular diets and how each one can positively affect your health. Yes, you should still consult your doctor before trying any of them, but their concepts and end goals are the same.

1) The Keto Diet – Carbs Under 20G, Moderate Protein, and Heart-Healthy Fats

Keto has been around for a while, but it’s only recently gained steam as a great way for overweight and obese people to lose fat quickly and efficiently. You consume under 20 grams of carbs per day with a focus on moderate protein and lots of heart-healthy fats, like full-fat cheese, avocados, and whole eggs. As your body becomes adapted to not burning carbs for energy, it turns to your fat storage.

2) CICO – Calories In/Calories Out

Tried-and-true, CICO is the basis for ALL diets but not everyone follows it as is. The old-fashioned CICO is a way of eating that touts portion control and moderation. You pay attention to serving sizes and calories, striving to burn more calories than you consume.

Tip: Before pursuing CICO, use an online Total Daily Energy Expenditure calculator to determine your maintenance calories. These are the calories you would need to eat to maintain your current weight. Take off 500-1000 calories from your TDEE and this would be the number you need to eat on a daily basis to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

3) OMAD – One Meal a Day

OMAD, or One Meal a Day, is a play on CICO. However, instead of divvying up your allotted calories throughout the day, you eat a single meal that meets your caloric and nutritional needs.

4) Intermittent Fasting – Going 16+ Hours Before Having Your First Meal of the Day

Another play on CICO, Intermittent Fasting makes it easier to contain your calorie limits. You wait 16 to 20 hours between meals, then consume a combination of heart-healthy fats, good carbs, and lots of protein for 2-3 meals in your eating window. For instance, since there are 24 hours in a day, if you fasted for 16 hours, you would have 8 hours where you could eat within your caloric range.

Side note: This article is for entertainment purposes. At the end of the day, the best diet for you is one that is both healthy and works for your mind and body.
